How to size a bangle
For closed bangles (without a hinge)
This method is for bangles that have no opening and must be slid over your hand.
- Prepare your hand:
Bring your thumb to the palm of your hand, as if you are putting on a bangle.
- Measure the widest part:
Wrap a flexible measuring tape around the widest part of your hand, usually over the knuckles. If using string, mark where it overlaps.
- Record the measurement:
Note the circumference in inches or centimetres.
- Choose your bangle size:
The inner circumference of the bangle should be slightly larger than your hand's circumference. For example, if your hand circumference is 7.9 inches (20 cm), the inner diameter of the bangle should be around 2.5 inches (6.4 cm).
For hinged or open bangles
These styles have an opening, so the fit is determined by the wrist.
- Measure your wrist: Wrap a flexible tape measure around your wrist where you want the bangle to sit.
- Keep it comfortable: Make sure the tape measure is snug but not too tight.
- Note the measurement: Read the circumference and record it.
- Choose your bangle size: Select a bangle with an inner circumference that is slightly larger than your wrist measurement for a comfortable fit.
Tips for a perfect fit
- When in doubt, go up a size:
If your measurement falls between two sizes, a slightly larger bangle will be more comfortable.
- Check for security:
The bangle should slide over your knuckles with slight resistance but not be so tight that it grips your wrist.
- Consider stacking:
If you plan to wear multiple bangles, choose a slightly looser size to allow for comfort.
